Crosswalker, original watercolor by John K. Bunkley
Curated and organized by Detroit Art Specialists, this exhibition at Cass Cafe Gallery features 33 original watercolors by artist, musician and archivist John K. Bunkley. "I am looking outward to the lives of my people and elevating their daily ordinary moments to canvas. I use the portrait to depict one particular facet, frozen in time, of an emotion, be it frustration, raw strength, tenderness, innocence, or solitude. I use these facets to create a picture of a community in the viewer’s mind. What I observe and how I react to my circumstance is the most important element to my work. I am filtering and projecting my experiences onto the figures in my paintings. The message is one of the individual, and each individual’s addition to the collective makes it stronger and more braced to oppose. I focus on the individuals that make a community, the people that shouldn’t go unnoticed." John K. Bunkley
